Julius Chestnut Status

rotoWire
Chestnut ended the 2022 season with nine rushing attempts for 12 yards. He added three receptions for 41 yards and 215 kick return yards.

What it means:

Chestnut joined the Titans as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2022 season. He was inactive for each of Tennessee's first 11 games but closed the season with an increased role as he suited up for the final six contests. While Derrick Henry will continue to dominate carries out of the backfield in 2023, Chestnut could be a valuable special teams contributor as he chipped in at least 40 kick return yards in three of the last five games to close 2022.
rotoWire
Chestnut rushed the ball four times for minus-one yard in Thursday's 27-13 loss to the Cowboys. He added one reception for 33 yards.

What it means:

Chestnut played 14 offensive snaps, second on the team behind Hassan Haskins. He was bottled up on the ground, though he did manage to set the Titans up for a field goal with his 33-yard reception late in the second quarter. With Derrick Henry (hip) expected to return in Week 18 against Jacksonville, Chestnut will slip back to third on the running back depth chart.
rotoWire
Tennessee signed Chestnut to its active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's game at the Chargers, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

What it means:

With fellow reserve running back Dontrell Hilliard (neck) landing on the injured reserve list Saturday, Tennessee saw fit to bring Chestnut on board to provide some depth at tailback. The rookie undrafted free agent has taken five carries for 13 yards and caught two passes for eight yards through two games this season.

Chestnut reverted to the Titans' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

What it means:

Chestnut was elevated from the practice squad for the second time in as many weeks ahead of Sunday's loss to Jacksonville. With Hassan Haskins (hip) inactive and Trenton Cannon (knee) on IR, the undrafted rookie served as Tennessee's third-string running back behind Dontrell Hilliard, who was forced out with a neck injury. Chestnut did not record a rush across his seven offensive snaps, but he did haul in both of his targets for eight yards. He also returned two kickoffs for 53 yards across 12 special-teams snaps. With Hilliard already ruled out Week 15 versus the Chargers, it's likely that Chestnut would be elevated to serve as Tennessee's No. 2 running back if Haskins also remains sidelined.

Chestnut was elevated to the active roster Saturday, Ben Arthur of FoxSports.com reports.

What it means:

Chestnut will be on the field with the Titans for a second consecutive game. Hassan Haskins (hip) has yet to be ruled out as he was last week, although Chestnut's elevation would seem to foreshadow that he likely will be.
rotoWire
Chestnut reverted to the Titans' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.

What it means:

Chestnut received the promotion with Hassan Haskins (hip) out. He saw seven snaps on offense against the Eagles, which led to five carries for 13 yards, all occurring in garbage time. Depending on Haskins' status for Week 14 against the Jaguars, Chestnut could find himself back with the active roster.
