Jeff Driskel Status

rotoWire
Driskel completed two of two passes for 13 yards and had three carries for seven yards in a 32-31 win over the Colts in Week 18.

What it means:

Driskel, who was part of a quarterback share with Davis Mills over the final five games, had his fewest amount of snaps (six) in the season finale. The gimmick worked as a surprise factor the first week but was less effective in the following weeks. He heads to free agency after completing 14 of 20 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown. Driskel also ran the ball 20 times for 75 yards. The Texans used him in the backfield and at tight end during his two seasons in Houston, and that position versatility could be attractive.
rotoWire
Driskel completed three of four passes for nine yards and ran twice for seven yards in Sunday's 31-3 loss to the Jaguars in Week 17.

What it means:

Offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton continued to work the two-quarterback system with Driskel and Davis Mills, which yielded good results Week 14 when the Texans nearly upset the Cowboys, but the surprise factor waned in successive weeks. As Jacksonville built a 28-0 lead, Houston averaged 2.1 yards per play with Driskel under center compared to 4.9 yards with Mills, per Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle. Neither Driskel nor Mills were effective, and it appears the organization will be looking for a quarterback in the draft.
rotoWire
Driskel completed three of four passes for 40 yards, gained two yards on two carries and caught his lone target for four yards in Saturday's 19-14 win over the Titans.

What it means:

Driskel was once again in the mix at quarterback and sometimes in a two-quarterback system along with Davis Mills. Offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton ditched the even split between the two that was deployed two weeks ago against Dallas, but Driskel continues to spot in at times to keep defenses guessing.
rotoWire
Driskel completed two of four passes for eight yards and rushed four times for eight yards in the Texans' 30-24 overtime loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.

What it means:

Driskel once again worked in conjunction with Davis Mills at quarterback, but the latter put up 24 pass attempts to Driskel's four. The versatile signal-caller appears likely to continue to cede the majority of passing work to Mills in a Week 16 road battle versus the Titans on Saturday afternoon.
rotoWire
The Texans have elevated Driskel to their 53-man roster, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

What it means:

This marks the fourth and final time the Texans can promote Driskel from their practice squad, which means he has earned a permanent spot on their active roster. He split snaps (33) with David Mills in the team's 27-24 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. He was primarily used as a rushing threat, recording seven carries for 36 yards. The 29-year-old also threw for 48 yards and a touchdown on 4-of-6 passing. It remains to be seen how head coach Lovie Smith will handle his quarterback situation going forward, but Driskel could be in line for a similar role as this past week.
rotoWire
Driskel reverted to Houston's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

What it means:

Driskel was activated from the practice squad for the third time this season Week 14. After being used sparingly as a third-down rusher in the first two games of the season, the 29-year-old played the exact same number of snaps (33) as quarterback Davis Mills, as Kyle Allen was ruled a healthy scratch. Driskel continued to play a role as a rushing threat with seven carries for 36 yards while also going 4-for-6 passing for 38 yards. This included a 28-yard touchdown connection to wide receiver Amari Rodgers. With Driskel no longer eligible to be activated from the practice squad, he'll now require a permanent spot on the active roster to continue suiting up for Houston this season. According to Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle, coach Lovie Smith indicated that he's currently unsure if the team will carry three quarterbacks or not moving forward, though he did say the team can't let its roster restrictions "stop us from fielding our best 48 players this week." Therefore, it's possible Driskel could play a similar role if Allen or Mills are ruled a healthy scratch versus Kansas City on Sunday, Dec. 18.
