Haskins carried two times for three yards and hauled in both of his targets for 13 yards in Saturday's 20-16 loss to the Jaguars.
What it means:
in the Titans' season-ending loss, Haskins served as the top complement to lead back Derrick Henry, playing 15 of the Titans' 72 snaps on offense (21 percent). The fourth-round pick out of Michigan finishes his rookie season with 25 carries for 93 yards and 11 receptions for 57 yards over 15 games.
Haskins rushed 12 times for 40 yards and brought in two of three targets for 13 yards in the Titans' 27-13 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday night.
What it means:
Haskins took the reins of the backfield in place of the inactive Derrick Henry (hip), and the rookie turned in a solid performance overall versus a tough Cowboys defense. Haskins did frequently find running room at a premium -- outside his long run of 12 yards, the 2022 fourth-round pick gained only 28 yards on his other 11 totes. With Henry expected to be available for the Week 18 road matchup versus the Jaguars a week from Sunday that will determine the AFC South champion, Haskins projects to return to a No. 2 role that's afforded him very sparse opportunity even after the placement of Dontrell Hilliard (neck) on injured reserve prior to Week 15.
Titans' Hassan Haskins 'in line for big role' Thursday night
What it means:
Tennessee Titans rookie running back Hassan Haskins is "in line for a big role" on Thursday night against the Dallas Cowboys.
Derrick Henry (hip) is expected to sit out Thursday, setting up Haskins as the Titans' lead back. The fourth-round pick has just 11 carries this season, so it's a solid opportunity for Haskins to show off his skills, but it's not an ideal game script against a tough Cowboys defense. Per numberFire's NFL Heat Map, the Titans are 12.5-point underdogs and they only have a 13.5-point implied total. Julius Chestnut is next on the depth chart behind Haskins.
numberFire's models project Haskins ($6,000 on FanDuel's single-game slate) for 13.3 carries, 2.0 receptions, and 72.1 yards from scrimmage. The Cowboys have the No. 5 rush defense and No. 4 overall defense in our season-long adjusted rankings.
Haskins' teammate Derrick Henry (hip) is listed as doubtful for Thursday's game against Dallas, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
What it means:
Haskins, a 2022 fourth-round pick, has been the No. 2 running back for Tennessee since Dontrell Hilliard suffered a season-ending neck injury Dec. 11. It's a role that mostly entails passing-down snaps while Henry dominates carries, though Hilliard was known as a power runner himself (not a receiving weapon) coming out of Michigan last spring. Julius Chestnut, an undrafted rookie, is the other running back on the active roster and also weighs more than 220 pounds, while former Cardinal Jonathan Ward is available on the practice squad. All of them will face a tough Dallas defense, and in a game where the Titans are huge underdogs while missing a slew of key players due to injuries and/or rest. Still, it's a nice chance for Haskins, who has two carries and six targets over the past 11 games (with five of those eight looks coming the past two weeks sans Hilliard).
Haskins recorded two receptions on two targets for 17 yards in Saturday's 19-14 loss to the Texans. He did not have a rushing attempt.
What it means:
Haskins was the only running back besides Derrick Henry to take the field for Tennessee, but he still played only 15 snaps. His impact was limited to work as a pass catcher, both of which came in the Titans' final offensive possession in a comeback scenario. Haskins is likely to play a minimal role so long as Henry remains on the field.
Haskins recorded one rush for eight yards in Sunday's 17-14 loss to the Chargers. He added two receptions on two targets for seven yards.
What it means:
Haskins operated as the backup to Derrick Henry with Dontrell Hilliard (neck) out for the rest of the regular season. He earned only one rush attempt and saw both of his targets with the team in obvious passing situations. Henry will continue to operate as the clear workhorse back, though Haskins has emerged as his primary backup.
