Gardner Minshew Status

rotoWire
The Colts have agreed to terms with Minshew, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

What it means:

The report notes that Minshew's deal is expected to be a one-year, $3.5 million pact. The 2019 sixth-rounder joins the Colts a day after the team officially released veteran signal-caller Matt Ryan. The addition of Minshew gives Indy an option with NFL starting experience ahead of the 2023 season, but it remains to be seen how the rest of the QB depth chart will end up shaking out, with the franchise likely to continue bolstering the position, quite possibly via next month's draft.
rotoWire
Minshew completed 44 of 76 passes for 663 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions across five appearances (two starts) with the Eagles in 2022. He also had seven carries for three yards and a score, plus four fumbles (one lost).

What it means:

Minshew started Weeks 16 and 17, against the Cowboys and Saints, resulting in two losses for the Eagles while Jalen Hurts missed time due to a shoulder injury. The soon-to-be 27-year-old is scheduled to hit free agency when the new league year begins, though Philadelphia could have motivation to re-sign him and keep total consistency at the quarterback position. In any case, Minshew shouldn't have trouble find a backup role for the 2023 campaign.
rotoWire
Minshew is set to return to the backup role Sunday against the Giants with Jalen Hurts (shoulder) listed as questionable but slated to start at quarterback in the regular-season finale, ESPN.com reports.

What it means:

While filling in for Hurts in losses to the Cowboys and Saints in Weeks 16 and 17, respectively, Minshew completed 42 of 72 pass attempts for 629 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions to go with five rushing yards and another score. Though Hurts practiced in some capacity all week and isn't expected to be limited Sunday while the Eagles look to secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs with a win, the Giants are heavy underdogs and will be starting their third-string quarterback (Davis Webb) while also likely resting several other key players. With that in mind, it wouldn't be surprising if Minshew ends up getting in some snaps in relief of Hurts during the second half if the Eagles have turned the game into a blowout.
rotoWire
Minshew completed 18 of 32 passes for 274 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Saints.

What it means:

Minshew had a disastrous first half, as he was sacked five times as opposed to completing only six passes. He turned things around in the final two quarters, primarily thanks to a 78-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown. Minshew also threw a pick-six with five minutes remaining in the game, sealing a loss for Philadelphia. It remains to be seen whether Jalen Hurts (shoulder) will return for a Week 18 matchup against the Giants, which will dictate whether Minshew will have the chance to start a third-straight game.
rotoWire
Minshew is in line to start Sunday's game against to Saints in place of an inactive Jalen Hurts (shoulder), Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

What it means:

Minshew will be afforded a second consecutive start with Hurts tending to a sprained right throwing shoulder. In a Week 16 loss at Dallas, Minshew completed 24 of 40 passes for 355 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, scored a TD on the ground and also lost a fumble.
rotoWire
Minshew is slated to start Sunday's game against the Saints, Stacey Dales of NFL Network reports.

What it means:

With Jalen Hurts (right shoulder) not in line to play Sunday, a notion that will be confirmed once the Eagles' inactives are posted ahead the team's 1:00 ET kickoff, Minshew is poised to make his second straight start. In the team's Week 16 loss to the Cowboys, Minshew completed 24 of 40 passes for 355 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, while adding four carries for five yards and another TD.
