Bears reportedly add running back D'Onta Foreman
What it means:
The Chicago Bears have reportedly signed running back D'Onta Foreman to a one-year contract.
Foreman will join his fourth career team after the 26-year old was given a one-year deal on Thursday. In a potential run-heavy offense ranked first in rush percentage (56.1%) last season, expect Foreman to play a committee role alongside Khalil Herbert and Travis Homer.
On 208 total touches in 2022, Foreman ranked 30th among running backs with a 73.1 Pro Football Focus offensive rating while recording 939 scrimmage yards, 5 touchdowns, 34 forced missed tackles, and 3.26 yards after contact per rush attempt.
The Bears and Foreman agreed to a one-year, $3 million contract Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
What it means:
After allowing David Montgomery to move on to the Lions in free agency, Chicago continues to retool its backfield, following up Tuesday's signing of Travis Homer with the addition of Foreman to holdover Khalil Herbert. Foreman is coming off the most productive season of his six-year career in which he turned 203 carries into 914 yards and five touchdowns. As the Bears' roster currently stands, Foreman likely is the best bet of the trio to see work on early downs while also getting a good share of short-yardage and goal-line work considering his 6-foot, 235-pound frame.
Foreman rushed 12 times for 68 yards prior to being ejected early in the third quarter of Sunday's 10-7 win over the Saints.
What it means:
Foreman and Saints defensive end Marcus Davenport were both disqualified after exchanging punches following a play with nearly 12 minutes remaining in the third quarter. Thanks to a long run of 21 yards, it had been a productive day for Foreman, who elevated his performance this season after Carolina traded fellow tailback Christian McCaffrey in October. In 16 games, including eight starts, Foreman rushed 203 times for 914 yards (4.5 per carry) and five touchdowns. Although he hardly contributed in the passing game, catching just five of nine targets for 26 yards, Foreman will now become an unrestricted free agent coming off his best campaign as a pro. At 26 years old, it'll be interesting to see whether the Panthers seek to re-sign Foreman to once again work alongside Chuba Hubbard, or whether the 235-pound tailback finds a prominent role elsewhere.
Panthers' D'Onta Foreman ejected in Week 18
What it means:
Carolina Panthers running back D'Onta Foreman was ejected from the team's Week 18 game against the New Orleans Saints.
Foreman got into a scuffle with Saints defender Marcus Davenport, leading to both being ejected from Sunday's contest.
Foreman had rushed 12 times for 67 yards prior to his ejection. With Foreman on the sidelines, expect the Panthers to lean on Chuba Hubbard as their primary ball carrier.
Panthers' D'Onta Foreman (knee) active for Week 18
What it means:
The Carolina Panthers will have running back D'Onta Foreman (knee) available for Sunday's Week 18 game against the New Orleans Saints.
Foreman was limited in practice all week with a knee injury, but will suit up for the Panthers' final regular season game. The former Texan was a massive part of the team's offense after Christian McCaffrey's departure, and is likely playing for the opportunity to return to the team in 2023.
Our models project Foreman for 9 fantasy points off of 58.3 rushing yards and 0.4 touchdowns. He has a $6,500 salary on FanDuel.
Foreman (knee) is listed as active Sunday at New Orleans, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
What it means:
Foreman didn't make an appearance on Carolina's injury report until Friday due to a knee issue, which resulted in a cap on his reps and a listing of questionable for Week 18 action. In the end, though, the health concern won't keep him from suiting up Sunday. If he's able to handle his normal workload, Foreman should be in line for the 18.4 touches per game that he's averaged over the 10 contests since Christian McCaffrey was dealt to the 49ers after Week 6.
