Craig Reynolds Status

Reynolds and the Lions agreed to a contract Monday.

What it means:

The exact details of the deal are unknown but Reynolds will be returning to Detroit for a third season in 2023. The running back appeared in nine games with the Lions last season, recording 102 rushing yards on 23 carries while also reeling in nine catches for 116 yards. With D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams both likely to still be on the team next season, there isn't a clear path for Reynolds to see an increase in usage.

Reynolds rushed 23 times for 102 yards while catching nine of 10 targets for 116 yards over nine games in 2022.

What it means:

Reynolds opened the year as the No. 3 running back behind D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams, but he couldn't stay healthy and eventually fell behind Justin Jackson on the depth chart as well. While Reynolds is now set to hit free agency at the end of the league year, it's possible he could return to a more prominent role for the Lions in 2023 considering both Williams and Jackson are also on expiring contracts.

Reynolds (Coach's Decision) will be inactive for Saturday's game against the Panthers.

What it means:

With D'Andre Swift, Jamaal Williams and Justin Jackson ahead of him on the depth chart and healthy, Reynolds will be the odd-man-out Saturday. The 26-year-old has suited up for six games this season, but has not since Week 8.

Reynolds (ribs) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Jets.

What it means:

Reynolds was activated off injured reserve Saturday, but he'll remain sidelined for at least one more contest while working his way back from a rib injury. Justin Jackson, who was listed as questionable due to an illness, is active and figures to continue serving as the No. 3 running back behind D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams.

Reynolds (ribs) was activated off injured reserve Saturday, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.

What it means:

Reynolds traveled with the team to New York for Sunday's matchup against the Jets and will presumably be active following a five-game absence due to a knee injury. He opened the season as the No. 3 running back behind Jamaal Williams and D'Andre Swift, but Justin Jackson has thrived in that role of late. It's unclear what Reynolds' role will be in Week 15 if he's deemed available, but he's unlikely to garner a large enough role to crack fantasy relevancy.

Reynolds (ribs) was designated to return from IR on Thursday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

What it means:

Reynolds suffered the injury in Week 9's win over the Packers and was placed on IR on Nov. 9. He now has a 21-day window to practice with the team before needing to be added to the active roster. Before suffering the injury, Reynolds operated as the team's No. 3 running back, a role that Justin Jackson has since occupied. Whether Reynolds will have to earn back that role remains to be seen.
