Chris Carson Status
Seahawks' Chris Carson (neck) retiring from football
What it means
Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson (neck) is retiring from the NFL.
Carson played in 49 games over five seasons for the Seahawks, including back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns in 2018-19. Rashaad Penny and Kenneth Walker will split most of Seattle's backfield work this season in what should be a run-heavy offense. Penny is expected to begin the year as the lead back.
Penny is currently the RB27 in numberFire's preseason fantasy rankings and our models project him for 228.6 combined carries and targets. Walker is the RB36 and projected for 195.73 offensive opportunities.
Condotta: 'The Seahawks remain unclear if or when' Chris Carson (neck) will return
What it means
According to Bob Condotta, the Seattle Seahawks "remain unclear if or when" running back Chris Carson (neck) can return.
Per head coach Peter Carroll, the Seahawks have not received any updates about Carson's return timeline.“It’s still gonna take some time still working through it," said Carroll. "He’s really working hard, I know that, and it’s really important to take it as far as you can. So we’ll just have to wait. Take some time to figure that out.”
Heading into next week's draft, expect Rashaad Penny to take over as Seattle's lead running back while Carson is sidelined. On 119 carries last season, Penny ranked 12th among his position with a 80.5 Pro Football Focus offensive rating.
